About me

I am a fourth-year doctoral candidate at Florida State University studying Developmental Psychology and an Institute of Education Sciences pre-doctoral fellow through the Florida Center for Reading Research. Through this fellowship, I engage in interdisciplinary research and coursework focused on supporting the reading achievement of diverse K-12 students in the United States.I am a member of the Schotz Lab, working with Dr. Chris Schatschneider and fellow graduate students on collaborative and independent research related to measurement, advanced statistics, and cognitive predictors of reading ability.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Increasingly, I am focused on evaluating the credibility and accessibility of published research, asking the questions: How do we know what we "know" about reading instruction, assessment, and intervention? What systematic and unique factors threaten the accessibility, replicability, and reproducibility of research? What individual and institutional levers can be pulled to support and incentivize participation in open practices?I am also passionate about translational science and effective data visualization, including the creation of free online tools to support evidence-based decision-making.Check out the Research tab to learn more about the projects and presentations I have completed so far, and the Data Viz tab for data visualizations!
OUTSIDE THE LAB
I have many interests & hobbies and I am always trying to grow as a person as well as a researcher! I have lived in 4 U.S. states and have traveled all over the country camping and hiking. Currently, I am training for my second half-marathon, working on several crocheting and knitting projects, and cooking my way through a plant-based soup cookbook!

DATA VISUALIZATION
Open Science October. As part of my work with LDbase, I co-organize an annual online event aimed to increase public engagement with openly available data by inviting participants to create & share data visualizations. I also contributed several visualizations myself! See below for some of the visualizations I have created so far.

Tidy Tuesday. I have made many data visualizations in R in response to the R for Data Science group's #TidyTuesday prompts. Check out the visualizations included below and take a look at the R code I used to make them on GitHub!

Exploring predictive power. With this interactive Shiny app, users can explore the relationships among common indices used to evaluate screening tools.Try it out here!
